Mission Statement
H.E.R.D. was created with a simple but powerful belief: access to higher education shouldn’t be a privilege — it should be a promise. As we grow this program, we’re not just opening doors, we’re building bridges. Bridges to opportunity, representation, and a future these students may have never imagined.
That is why H.E.R.D.’s mission statement is to utilize our fraternity as a resource to build a platform for marginalized high school students to use in their pursuit of higher education, alongside Sigma Lambda Beta’s Mission Statement of nurturing and further a dynamic, value-based environment that utilizes our historically Latino-based fraternity as a catalyst to better serve the needs and wants of all people.
About Our Program
Higher Education Retention & Diversity (H.E.R.D.), was established in 2022, and is an outreach program dedicated to supporting low-income and first-generation students on their path to higher education. The program offers resources, personalized guidance, and mentorship to help students successfully navigate the college experience. Beyond academic support, H.E.R.D. fosters meaningful relationships and a lasting network of encouragement that extends well beyond the program itself.
